More about BCSnob

My username, BCSnob, comes from our attitude that if you want to herd livestock get a Border Collie. We raise, train, and compete with our Border Collies in sheepdog trials. We compete exclusively in ISDS style herding trials that are typically sanctioned by the US Border Collie Handlers' Association (USBCHA). There are other herding organizations in the US (i.e. AKC, AHBA, and ASCA) that offer herding tests and titles; however, ISDS style herding trial was specifically designed to test the supreme herding breed and as such exceeds the level of difficulty in the events offered by the other organizations.

In order to train our dogs we keep sheep. We have 6 acres of pasture on which we keep 10-20 breeding ewes. We keep Katahdin Hair Sheep and Katahdin x Dorper Hair Sheep. Hair sheep do not have wool and therefore do not need to be shorn. This is an advantage for small flock owners since finding a sheep shearer willing to come out to shear 20 sheep is very difficult and expensive. Current wool prices barely cover the costs of shearing. Hair sheep are exclusively bred for meat.

We RV because it offers us a more enjoyable means to attend events as compared to hotels and we are not limited by pet rules. We dry camp at the events (typically on farm fields). We do not stay at campgrounds.
