Hey guys,
I have not used the trailer for a long while, I hate to say it has been about 2 years. I pulled it out to go over it and it seems that the brakes are not working. I have a Jordan Ultima 20/20 controller and it seems to be showing that all 4 magents in the brakes are not responding. when I hit the brakes I get no real reading on the display.
Would you replace the entire brake assembly or just the magnets? Also what type of connectors should I look to use to wire up the new magnets/brakes to keep the water sealed?

The magnets are wired in parallel. It would be odd that all would fail.
Suggest checking things closer.
First check for continuity between the trailer plug brake wire and the trailer plug ground.
Next inspect wiring between trailer plug and axles. Could be broken wire.
Check the connections in the junction box on the end of the connector cable.
The best spice to use is a soldered and covered with heat shrink.
Next would be a crimp splice with the addition of a de-oxidation compound on conductors before crimping.
How much to replace replace would be a decision after opening the assemblies up. May just need good wire brushing and cleaning.

It has been sitting for 2 years in northern IL and with snow pilling up around the wheels for a few winters is it not possible for them to develop a problem after being burried in snow?
At the moment I am just basing this off what my controller is telling me. The continuity light is on but the brakes are not being activated. When I press the pedal the meter goes up to about 6 or 8 and then drops back down to basically nothing.

After just playing with it that might be the problem. Corrosion in the connector to the truck. I unplugged it and plugged it back in and I am getting a readout of 10 and the brakes (atleast on the side I was sitting) seem to work.

I second you probably have a Corrosion problem. Pay particular attention to the grounds on the trailer. Need to find where the brake wiring is grounded to the trailer frame. This location should also be where the ground from the truck is connected to the trailer frame.

I will give it a look. I just want to make sure everything is in good condition so I can get back to using it, plus we are moving to TX in a month or so, so I want to make sure it i ready for that trek.
I am still trying to figure out how these things work. I am pretty mechanically inclined (have been a motorcycle road race mechanic for the last few years) but I am not sure my feeble mind is comprehending. I was just out there and had my wife push the brakes, the one with the wheel/tire still on worked but the one with the hub off did do anything. I figured it would at least try to move the shoes, but nothing. It did seem to energize the magnet though.

The magnets are sealed so snow wouldn't affect them.

If you have removed the drum you will NOT see anything happen with the brake shoes. The magnet is attracted to the moving drum, brake lever moves shoes to contact drum. Replace drum, adjust brakes, rotate drum by hand (in direction of travel) have wife depress brake pedal, see if rotation stops.

Yeah I just went out an did a little playing and figured that out. Now it all makes perfect sense.
The ground connections under the trailer look prety good, I think there might be a little corrosion in the trailer plug and that was causing the problem.
