Hi There.
I'm about to attempt to install a new dvd/car stereo in my travel trailer to replace the old cassette-player car deck. My question is in regards to the lack of an ACC switch. The instructions that came with the new stereo state that the vehicle must have an ACC switch. Well obviously a trailer doesn't have an ACC switch. What are my options to get around this problem ? Any information/ideas are greatly appreciated.

Thanks !!

seems like your fuse on that circuit is about the same as the ACC switch. The stereo will have a power on/off switch, so you should be set.

ACC is just a factory power outlet on fuse panel that powers everything when ignition is turned on in your vehicle...........should be able to wire in to your existing power wire that powers cassette

I am not exactly sure what the need for an ACC switch is all about. I suspect that the aim of the installation set-up is to have a power supply that is always hot. The reason for this would be to retain the memory in the head unit. This would be things such as station pre-sets, clock, bass and treble settings and etc.

I suppose the ACC switch would make it necessary (in a normal vehicle installation) for the ignition switch to be on in order to power/use the head unit. In other words, in this case, you probably only need one power supply (one that is always hot) for both functions.

I hope this helps.

See you out there,

Robert

The ACC lead is what power's the radio. The battery feed is what keeps the memory presets and clock saved. In an automotive application the ACC goes dead when the key is off, this turns off the radio. For the RV you simply tie the ACC and the Battery feeds together. The radio's power switch is used to turn the system on and off....

Thanks for the quick replies !
I agree with the comment about the ACC retaining memory on the head unit. I think that if I run the ACC wire to the power lead as suggested, this will slowly drain the battery even when power to the unit is turned off, right ?
Thanks for your help.

If your worried about the stereo draining the battery just install a seperate cut off switch right next to the stereo. That will kill all the power, but you'll loose all your pre-sets every time you turn it off.

Yes, although I believe it (the draw) would be minimal. when I wired my new upgraded radio I just omitted the wire that retains the memory so there is no excess draw. Only down side is I would have to redo all the presets if desired. It's really not a problem for me. I really don't care about the clock and the radio presets are kind of useless as the area of radio operation is not static.

the draw is so little it's more trouble to worry about it. THink about a car stereo you could leave a car for months and months go out and start it and that with reg. battery now think of your power supply that your trailer has
