As long as it didn't bust our budget we'd still head SOB during the winter. Besides enjoying the wonders of Mexico and its people, where else would my two Portugese Water Dogs find practically empty beaches to run and play on.

As Long as "All" the Advantages outweigh the Alternatives We will Still be Heading to Mexico! There are still Things to See and Do there that Haven't been accomplished Yet!

That said if Other Destinations become more appealing We will certainly be open to trying them! We have been to Australia , and Will return. We have toured Europe and Britain as well and have enjoyed St Martin St Kitts Jamaica Etc.As I mentioned much Earlier when I first joined this group, We have been Many Places and will continue to search for more that offer the kind of atmosphere that stimulates Our senses!

There is a Lot More than Cheap Booze and Fuel that keeps Us travelling!

We wouldn’t dream of not going every winter. We have lived and worked in the PNW all our lives and going SOB is such a refreshing change of pace. Granted, we stay on the beach 6 months out of the year but one of the main reasons is the real Mexican people (in deference to border Mexicans on both sides) they enjoy living. I sometimes wonder what we (gringos) did wrong by letting that simple concept get away from us.
Thankfully, it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. The phrase “ugly American” was justifiably coined.

The reverse would be true for me. Even though gas prices are double in the U.S. we may still take a short trip or two to San Antonio. Maybe even this weekend if work permits. You need to have change in your life, change of scenery, food, people, opinions, etc.

As Robatthelake says, the smörgåsbord of life is full of many possibilities and as one dish empties, another is added. My list of future adventures includes Cuba, Greece and Turkey. We also have friends in Beijing who have an extra bedroom they have been asking us to use.

We have just invested in a new (to us) motorhome so that will keep us on this side of the ocean for a while but if things change, so can we.

Since my first responce to this question was somehow shot into cyberspace. Yes we would still go SOB at least until the cost became more than we had income for.

Would you continue to travel in Mexico if the price of liquor doubled??

I buy good ole' Canadian Whiskey here in the States for $10 a bottle (1.75) and take a box or two with me.

States I have spent the night in my current rig, bought three years ago.
Have RV'ed through 49 states and been in all 50, just short of my half-century.

Hi Everyone,
Sorry I've been absent from this board but life in Colorado in the summer is fun and busy. Yes, come hell or high water, we're headed SOB regardless of prices for fuel and food...and booze in Mexico. During the winters in Colordo, our utility bills for propane, electricity, and water total over 1 kilobucks per month. When I compare that to a 400 buck full service RV site, it does not take a rocket scientist to clearly see, going south is a good thing. Even if the cost of food and fuel is the same as the good ol' USA - and we all know, we know ways to live for less in an RV, only a moron would say "stay home" under those circumstances. Besides, I like playing golf in December, January, February, and March. My view of snow is "If God put it there, God can take it away." So as my friends and neighbors are paralyzed when all the roads are closed, I plan to be sitting in my lawn chair with a glass of California white wine, watching the sun set over the Sea of Cortez. And, last but not least, the uniform where I go in Mexico is an Hawaiian shirt, cargo shorts, and sandals. I smile when I am in Mexico and think of parkas, boots, gloves, and warming up the car before a trip. Viva Mexico!

Best regards,
Larry

We just traveled back from Mexico in the last few weeks, and after putting on more than 3500 miles at diesel prices just under $5.00, our fuel bill for the trip was one-fourth of the current "lock-in-the-price pre-pay plan" for fuel to heat our home here in the winter. So we will continue to do what we have been doing . . . drain the pipes and shut 'er down . . . and enjoy the savings in Mexico and the Southwest.
