For the first time I went to Kolob Reservoir yesterday. It's off of St. Rt. 9 in the town of Virgin, in southern Utah. It's quite a scenic drive on a paved road from 3500 ft of desert, climbing up through Zion National Park, to the mountains at 10,000 ft. There is not a fee to drive through this part of Zion Park. Kolob Reservoir is at the top of this drive and the road becomes dirt. Vehicles less than 20 ft is suggested at the top. Just a warning, the entire route and the area surrounding the reservoir is private property, which felt somewhat cramped. There are perhaps 20 or less camping spots surrounding the reservoir available so you may want to go during the week. Campfires are not allowed this time of year. There are some trails to hike on in the Zion Park area but not at the reservoir. It has a boat ramp for small fishing boats and there's trout in the reservoir. The temps were about 85 - 95 degrees. Overall OK, downside was being surrounded by so much private property.
I took my truck only.
