I want to travel to Mexico but I am concerned about water. I have IBD and an bacterial, viruses or other contaminates can make me very sick, very fast. I have seen the Seagull units that seem to be the answer. Does anybody have any experience with this or a similar unit in Mexico to clean water before it goes in the RV tank.

If this is the case, I would not put a lot of faith in bottled waters. I don't mean this as a negative but a lot of bottled waters carry contaminants. I am sure you already know that but just in case.

We use a UV filter in conjuction with other filters for a dedicated spigott on both our coaches. |There is info on our website under the product reviews link.

Hope this helps.

We also have a UV system (Pura UV20-3) that is a "whole house" unit, it can be powered from a 12V source. We hang it on the side of the RV and connect it from the water source to the RV (either directly in or for filling the tank where the pressure is low).

It's probably oversized for the application, but it's important that the flow by the UV light is at or below the required flow rate to get a proper kill.

We have used the system for 2 winters down there without any problems with "Turista". You need to change the filters and UV light annually. It's won't take salt out of the water like a R/O can, but some parks won't let you run a reverse osmosis unit down there because of the water that R/O units waste.

Ultraviolet irradiation is at best incomplete. I would recommend an O3 (Ozone) generator fitted to whatever vessel is going to hold your drinking water. Ozone like Iodine, kills everything including bacteria that is resistant to UV.

We spent two months in Baja, and never had any problems finding purified water stores that could run a hose out to the camper to fill the tank.

I think for 40 gallons of purified water, it cost $3. Save your money on various purifiers and just get your tanks filled from the local shops.

We also put a 35 gallon tank in the bed of the truck that we could get filled if we didnt want to move the camper. A few times we would just go up to the store, get that tank filled and refill the camper.

After two months, we never got sick and this system worked flawlessly.

Good Luck

YEP. Just like he said. Easy to find and cheap.

I filter water that goes into the tank just to get the sand and other solids out then add a little bleach - with this water we bathe, wash dishes and flush the toilet. For the 6 gallons we drink/brush teeth/cook with every week we use purified water.

Can't remember the brand name, but I use a blue plastic cylindrical filter that I buy in Wal Mart for about 18 bucks. I change it about every 2-3 months. Connects in line to the water hose which comes from my in ground water tank that contains spring water, truck delivered from the Ejido well in town. This water for bathing, dishwashing, etc. For drinking I have a couple of 5gal jugs which I have filled at the local water company, reverse osmosis water, 70 cents a jug. Have never gotten sick from the reverse osmosis water, I have used the tank water for drinking, but it takes several days to acclimate.
