I have a scooter (motor kind) carrier that fits into a 2"hitch. Scooter and carrier probably weigh around 300 lbs. My unloaded hitch weight is 330 lbs. I'm thining I probably put around 50-100 lbs of additional stuff in the front storage compartment. I am wanting to mount the scooter carrier on the back of the trailer.

Is there a hitch made for the back of the trailer?

Can the trailer support the weight?

Will the tongue be too light?

Any ideas how to do this?

Can the trailer support the weight? Yes but your tongue weight already sounds to be low. Maybe the front of the tow vehicle is a better place.

Will the tongue be too light? I don't know you need to give us the total trailer weight. The tongue weight should be at least 10 - 12 per cent of that.
Any ideas how to do this? see above.

In my uneducated opinion that is too much weight on the back of a TT because the tongue weight will be too light.

You will need to compensate more than 50-100lbs in the front. You need to go weigh your trailer first. Get a tire weight and a tongue weight, every trailer is different so there isn't any way we can say yes or no, although many will. Can it be done correctly, sure, it is all in the weights. You want 10-12% of the total TT weight on the tongue. They make bolt on receivers for the rear bumper, although I wouldn't use them. Take it to a hitch shop and have them weld one in as well as supporting the rear frame work of the trailer.
Good luck

You would be wise to discuss this with the trailer manufacturer. Most have barely enough frame to hold the box up let alone something hanging off of the back.

As someone who tore a welded bumper off the back of a TT with just three light bikes, I can tell you I'm doubtfull this is doable. The leverage and twisting action of something like that bouncing down the road is tremendous. At a minimum you need to get the bumper replaced with a thicker material and heavily reinforced by a good welder but as Dick B. suggested, you will likely have handling problems due to the lightened front end.

Best of luck,
Scott

Is there a hitch made for the back of the trailer?

there is a universal hitch that is wide enough...
I don't think much of them though, for the same money one can be made...

Can the trailer support the weight?

in my humble opinion, NO...
I don't know much about your trailer but the longer it is the bigger the NOOO is... the lighter it is the bigger the NO...
you need to add the weight of the hitch to that 300 lbs to don't forget...

Will the tongue be too light?

YES
but you need to weigh it to know how much to light... it would be difficult to load near 400# on the back of a trailer with 330# tongue weight and add enough in the trailer anywhere without overloading the axles...

Any ideas how to do this?

not any that would work and be safe to pull...

call the trailer mfg or chassis mfg to find out how much weight the chassis will support back there...

do not rely on the dealer for this information...
if a welder says he can do it ask for a warranty, make sure the warranty covers the intended use and any resulting chassis damage...

I have had welders tell me they would guarantee their work, but all that means is the hitch won't break, and has nothing to do with the fitness of the hitch to do the intended job on the chassis it is welded to...

I looked into this issue to carry my Champion Generator. It won't fit in the TT, and I don't like carrying it in my 'Burb. The prevailing opinion (3 different hitch places) is that putting weight on the back of the TT is not a good idea.

So I put a 2" front receiver hitch on the 'Burb and have a tray that is rated at 500 lbs.

I'll carry it up there when I need to take it with me. If we ever get back into bicycling again, I'll buy a bike rack and carry them on the front of the 'Burb.

Well let me ask you this. I have plenty of extra carrying compacity on the trailer. Can I not just put the thing in the camper. I thought I could get some D-ridngs and bolt them to the cross braces on the frame.

basically you can do anything you want, as long as proper balance and loading is maintained...

inside the load is primarily on the axles, and you will still need to insure you have proper tongue weight...

a TT stability is all based on balance, and is the most important part of safe towing...
