There are now so many elderly and disabled people now wintering in Florida & Texas. What do you do if your spouse dies while there?
Many questions:
How do you get the body back to your home base?
Do you depend on your home funeral home to come get and transport them back?
When does embalming take place?
Are permits required to transport bodies across state lines?
Expensive?
How about flying the body back?
Is there insurance to cover this?
Any related information would be welcome. It is something that could happen to any of us. To be prepared is to be forewarned.

Medical Air Services Association (www.medicalairservices.com) provides the assistance you are asking about. They often put on dinners at local RV parks to promote their services.
I do not have this coverage and know nothing about benefits or costs but something to check into regarding your concerns.
We are all good at something.....
I just happen to be a good bad example.
Occasionally in error but never in doubt.

I have been told to contact your funeral director back home and let them make the arrangements for transport.

Any local funeral home can make arrangements to transport a deceased loved one to anywhere you could want. We did just this when Dad passed away. He died in Texas, but we buried him in Tennessee next to Mom. A Texas mortuary made all of the arrangements. I would assume they have some sort of network that makes this type of thing possible.

My Mother-in-law had a pre-aranged funeral....when she passed we contacted the funeral home she had pre-aranged at told them were she was and they handled all the arangments....If you can pre- arange it does make it better on those left behind...When my father in law passed on (he passed on before his wife) their were many questions needed answered in a short period of time. I would say your best bet would be to contact a funeral home in the area that they wish to be laid to rest in...JMO

Prop them up in the passenger's seat and head back to the house. When you get there, let the home town funeral home take over. Kind of like the old country song, "Prop me up by the juke box, when I die".
You could give a loved one that one final road trip.
