As with almost all gross generalizations, this one is completely false.
OK, I generalized, I'll restate it.
95 percent think that way, and the other five percent have pit bulls, and don't care one way or the other!
One great thing about traveling in an RV is that if you have discourteous camping neighbors you can at least move on down the road. It is a much bigger problem if the discourteous neighbor is your next door neighbor at your home.
I agree that most campgrounds do not enforce their own rules. Last week we were in a State Park in Kentucky which stated no "vicious breeds". We were, as always walking our english setter on a leash, in the middle of the roadway. We always make sure she doesn't walk on anyone's site. As we came to the end of the road, around some bushes blocking the view of a campsite, a dog which was cabled in that campsite, charged toward our dog, breaking it's cable and viciously attacked our dog.
It took me, my husband and both owners of the shepard mix to pull and literally beat this dog off of our's. After the incident, we were understandably extremely upset...know what the woman said..."he broke his lead what did you expect us to do!" No apology, I'm sorry, NOTHING!! Like it was our fault for walking past their site. I very "strongly" told her, she had no business bringing such a vicious animal into a park with other dogs and small children, and that I was reporting it. I did, immediately. Manager said he would tell them they had to remove the animal from the park.
Guess what, as I drove by, the manager was talking, AND LAUGHING with these people, became apparent they knew each other...that dog stayed there for two more days until we left...what good does it do to report things if parks won't enforce their own written rules??
Our Maddie doesn't bark . . . except when we go camping! If she's not with us, she barks to get our attention because she wants to be with us. We solved that problem by having her with us at all times. Sometimes that means she's outside on her leash with us while we're around the campfire or playing horseshoes, or whathaveyou, and other times that means we're sitting around the fire and one ore more of the kids are in the camper with her. As long as she's with one of us, she's happy.
She might be considered a "vicious" breed, as she's a German Shepherd, but she's the mildest mannered dog you'll find. She's also part Greyhound, but you'd never know it. She's a rescue and shows her love for us rescuing her all the time. She's a GREAT dog, but we certainly don't subject her to other folks, and frankly, she has ways of telling US when she's around folks who don't like dogs.

HA, HA, HA! Obviously, you have never had a disagreement with him!
OMG@! I can so identify with you. We just spent a week at Topsail Hill (FL) which was fabulous, except for the birddog next door.
BAR-rooh! BAR-rooh! BAR-rooh! BAR-rooh!
Who goes camping with a hunting dog?

I think some of these dog owners become almost immune to the nonstop barking. That's when you want 2 of those shock bark collars. One for the dog and one for the owner. Shock them both when the dog barks.

Sooo were you in the Iron River RV park? Trying to think of what city parks are on rivers...
If it's Iron River, I could send my big bad biker brother over there to muzzle the little mutts for ya! (LOL he's really a ***** cat at heart)
Or beat on their camper door and hollar SHADDUP YOUR MUTTS and then leave the campground?
How frustrating for you though, seriously. To have to move sites! and to not have the camp office or hosts take action?
We camp with our two dogs and never ever let them bark. If they happen to yip at something or a squirrel teasing them or a dog running loose, we whap em with a flyswatter and they shut right up. Some times just lifting the swatter up off our laps when we see them even THINKING of barking is enough for them to lay their heads back down and relax.
Kathy, I hope Katie was not hurt in that attack. I think I would have requested their name or the name of their insurance company to send the vet bills to if she was injured requiring vet care. I am really sorry to hear that happened, especially to such a sweet and gentle dog. Give her a big hug for me.
