I have a 4 cup coffee maker thats rated at 600 WATTS but when I try and use it with a 800/1000 WATT (it says 1000W MAX) inverter it blows the inline fuse to the battery.
Wouldn't the 600 WATT rating be the maximum wattage draw rating?

I wonder if the 600 watt rating is once the coffee has brewed and now is just keeping it hot. Also, I know that when an appliance, light bulb, motor etc turns on, they draw more power to start than once they are running. Maybe that is the problem.

Like some generators, many manufacturers label their units "1000 Watts" when in reality the unit only has a continuous wattage capability of 600 watts with the 1000 watt rating being the temporary surge the invertor can handel.
How many amps is that fuse that is blowing? My 1000 watt invertor required a 150 amp fuse in-line with the 2-gauge battery cables.
If your 1000 watt inverter is one that just plugs into a 12-volt outlet, the wiring and associated fuses are not large enough to handle the amperage of a 1000 watt invertor.

my little inverter won't run a small Tv in the TT but hook it up to the pickup and it runs fine. could just be the small wiring in the TT and it will not handle the load. try it in the truck and see how you make out.

We'd need to know the wire size from the batteries, and the fuse size.

The inverter is 800W continuous and 1000W surge. Its connected to about 4' of #10 stranded wire with a 20 Amp fuse inline.
I'm not sure about the coffee pots rating but I would think that they would rate it the maximum wattage, thats what would be most important.

If it is only a 20 amp fuse in line with the battery, the limit will be a lot less then 600 watts. When the heater in the coffee maker turns on the battery voltage will drop. If it drops to 10 volts the power limit is 200 watts (10 * 20).
I don't know why a 600 watt inverter would have a 20 amp fuse to the battery? Did it get changed at some point?

I WOULD GUESS THE COFFEE POT HAS A 600W CONTINUES RUN RATING... the surge rating could be twice that...
it has two heaters in it, when it comes on both come on at the same time, one heats the water and the other is a heater rope that heats the hot plate... once the water is hot the heat rope may only be 200 or 300w but when they are both on it will be the full 600w with a surge of up to 1200w...
you pot could be different since there different designs...

Lets start with some basics.
Coffe maker is rated at 600 watts. At 12V, thats 600/12 = 50 amps. Thats the minimum fuse just to keep it running. As others have stated, it could require more to start up, but not much. Resistance heating elements (and light bulbs) have lower resistance when cold, so draw more current on start up, at constant voltage.
Your inverter should have some documentation that gives fusing size information. If not, 85 amps might be a good start (1000 watts / 12 volts).
Your 20 amp fuse is just too small. The wiring must be sized to support this current!

your small inverter may have a 12v plug that won't properly fit into the dumb RV 12v outlet that isn't a standard size...
