I call mine Jill (Jillian if she speaks with an accent) DW gets mad when I listen to Jill and not her. I mistakenly said "well-Jill knows what shes talking about". Jill doesnt speak much anymore.
Last December, DH and I drove to Dallas to fly out of DFW for our Christmas trip. Since we had never been to DFW by car, we relied on our Garmin GPS to get us there. Jill (the female British voice) kept telling us to drive on a road in Dallas that was under construction--in fact, it wasn't even built yet! Once we got closer to the airport, she insisted that we turn left at every intersection. When we did so at one intersection, she told us to make a U-turn. Boy, was I glad that we weren't pulling our trailer!! She seems to get very confused in Dallas for some reason.
We really love our GPS, but next time we go to Dallas, I will be backing it up with a paper map or a printout from Mapquest!
I'm going to have to go home tonight and see if we have the Aussie guy voice. Since DH is British, I would like to see how close the Aussie voice get to his accent. If he told me to "Chuck a Ueee" as cited in an earlier post, I am afraid that I would wreck the car because I would be laughing so hard!

And, Tomtoms's routing engine rarely calls for a U-turn. So, we really cracked up the first time we heard "Chuck a Uee.........."
But.......what a fantastic, inexpensive gadget!
That's FABULOUS! "Chuck a Uee" I'll have to remember that!
I'm just giggling away here at all the stories! Thanks for the laugh!

How did you get to pick a different voice and still have it speak the street names? My Tomtom says I must use a 'computer voice' to speak the street names.
Tomtom One Third Edition doesn't speak the actual street names. It simply says "turn right" or whatever is applicable. While speaking the actual street names is a nice feature, you can get by without it, as the screen tells you the specific street name.

The "Recalculating" can drive you nuts. The bad thing is I talk back to her. The first time we used it we were going to NJ from here - we have done this at least three times a year for 34 years. We know how to get to NJ and it is not (for our destination) via the NYS Thruway. She must be on the state's payroll since she wanted us on that road in the worst way.
They are handy though. Mouthy but handy.

Boy that brings back memories!
I have not heard that name in years! When my sister would come in dirty from playing outside my Mom would always say to her that she looked like Gravel Gertie. Was that a movie character? Never thought of asking Mom where she came up with that.

Wasn't Gravel Gertie a character in the ole Dick Tracy Comic strip? I still have a very good memory....its just too short.

Gravel Gertie was indeed a character from Dick Tracy. She owned a gravel pit and was married to B.O.Plenty. Their daughters name was Sparkle Plenty. I believe she was crushed by a vending machine. Man, I gotta get a life!

I haven't heard him fuss at me like the old road mate did.. Wish I could hook his screen up to a larger monitor though. and I need the dash board bean bag badly.
