I found some general discussion in this forum about installing an intrusion alarm in a fifth wheel, but does anyone know of a commercial product which is specifically designed for fifth wheels? I'd like to find something which would detect motion inside the trailer and power a siren, plus have the ability to wire into the switch for the exterior lights so that anyone breaking a window or entering through the door would be bathed in light and noise. Wireless technology would seem to be appropriate. Reference to a website or product name would be much appreciated.

Read this... first!

Look HERE, this is rather high end, but it's one of the best.

This is a High end monitored system that calls your cell phone!

Here's anothersystem.

This one is close to what we decided on as it wasLess expensive but still effective.

I agree with NINEBELL. So here's a couple of questions for you...
1. Have you had a bad experience you'd like to share with us that prompted this?
2. What happens after it goes off when you're away?
3. Do you give the CG folks a key to control it?
4. Do you think any smart CG people would take that responsibility? I KNOW I would not. After all what's to stop you from accusing me of taking something?
5. What are you going to do when you come back and find your rig's door ripped off, your alarm ripped apart and totally destroyed?
I ask this because that's what I would be prone to do if I had to listen to it going off for more than 1 minute or 2.
If you think camping/RV is that bad. Don't do it. Campers/RVer are still about the best out there. Sure no CG will be 100% crime free.
There are those terrible "beer from the outside fridge thieves'. And the horrible "cut through site folks". But they are still better most areas we all live in. Heck, most CG's are safer then Beverly Hills. After all...no OJ
Maybe you'd like to just bolt a "safe box" (to the frame) inside your rig somewhere for valuables when away.

And by the way...I'm a cop and wouldn't even think of putting an alarm on my 5er.

Perhaps, just maybe the op is parking the trailer at his house or a storage lot, or even wanting it alarmed when at walmart and in shopping. We're not always at cg unfortunately. An alarm makes perfect sense in many scenarios. More of us have expensive hdtvs and other electronics that make our units attractive to thieves, especially in storage.

We are about to take delivery of a new, and expensive, trailer so I'm investigating an alarm system that would be suitable to use WHILE THE TRAILER IS IN A STORAGE COMPOUND !!!

Last week there was a rash of trailer break-ins at dealerships and storage lots in our area. The perps entered mostly by smashing the window in the door, and then simply letting themselves in. At the storage yards they stole booze and TV sets mainly, but also threw things out of drawers and generally made a nasty mess.

At the dealerships it was TV sets and microwaves that went missing, but ONE dealership escaped any problems. They have a laser sweeping the yard which turns on lights and activates a siren when someone scales the fence. It did its job and they had NO damage.

I'm interested in doing my best to ensure that our trailer, wherever it is stored when we are not using it, lets the crooks know that they've been detected, and hopefully moves them on.

Thank you Fordsooperdootydieselsmoker for your excellent input. Instead of going on a rant, you were helpful, and the website references were just what I needed.

Ed, do not worry about some of the post on this thread. We park our trailer at a storage lot also and have a interest in an alarm to use while in storage.

Just put an every day car alarm on your rig, wire in a horn, it'll go off if the trailer is moved. Don't set it so light that a breeze sets it off as the neighbors will burn your trailer down.
