Here is a video clip:
EUREKA, COLORADO, ghost town, boondocking location. Nearly everyone is scattered enough that generator use doesn't cause even the raising of a single eyebrow ! Located just North of Silverton Colorado, to get there, You just continue on up Main street going out of town untill the pavement ends. The road is well maintained and wide. There is a bridge and a sign telling you that you are at Eureka. Here is what it looks like:

FWIW, it may not have been crowded in June, but after the 4th of July, "New Eureka" grows mightily. I wonder on some weekends whether the RV population nears the "Old Eureka" population which was estimated at 2000!

You need a really good metal detector around this area. We tried it one time when we lived there, the detector beeped continuously! The problem is with all the metals found naturally and and also left from mining, milling and transporting silver and gold.

Thanks to OP for the video, hope you enjoyed your stay!

There's a book called Silverton Gold that covers the history of the Sunnyside Mine and that mill foundation in the background of your shots. I found mine at the outfitter shop in Silverton. Many old pictures of Eureka in that book.

I tried metal detecting there. There is so much trash and mineralization I gave up. It is still a great place to camp. I would like to have been able to stay longer. I did meet mountainborn ( original poster on this thread ) and his wife while we were there. Nice folks and I enjoyed our visit.
