Hello all,
I have in my rig two 6v (Trojan T105)in series, charged by a Xantrex Freedom 2500 inverter (and a solar panel of 100w).
I would like to add more batteries but there is no room for two more 6v in the battery compartment.
Will it be possible to add a 12v battery in parellel (Trojan or a another brand)?
Will this system function efficiently without one battery 'stealing' juice from the other(s)?
Will the inverter know how to deal with the different kinds/voltage ?
TIA, Isaac

I wouldn't do it. I think the 12 volt would be pulling amps out of the twin 6's.

Had a similar setup on my boat. Used a battery switch. The house batteries were the 6volts and the start and electronics batteries were 12volts. Pretty common setup on boats. You may need to also think about how it will change you charging. Here is the link to the switch. I don/t know if this place is any good but just so you know what I am talking about. For what its worth

As long as it's also a flooded deep cycle battery (not AGM or other specialty battery) you're fine.

I've had that exact setup (GR 31 deep cycle and 2 T105s) for 3 years now without trouble. Don't bother with a switch either, a switch only means that you won't use up the batteries evenly and your overall battery life will be less.

I have a similar configuration (factory installed) in my motorhome. The 12 v battery is the engine starting battery but is always connected in parallel with the two Trojan T-105s.

Batteries connected in parallel should always be of the same type, rating, manufacture, and approximately the same age. Connecting dissimilar batteries may produce undesirable or even dangerous results. Jack

No worries. Once connected it is just one big 12 volter.

Under the circumstances, I would vote for the battery switch.. Run off the pair of 6ers or the 12.. same with charging.

This is what I would use It gives you a choice of A or B or Both.
