I did a forum search and didn't find an answer to this question...
I read in the manual that a '94 Subaru Legacy AWD (All Wheel Drive) is not a candidate to use as a FROG (Four Rolling On Ground) and that it's suppose to be towed on a trailer. I'd rather not have to do that if possible.
Isn't there something I can buy that will allow me to tow this thing? Maybe a transmission pump device or a mechanical drive shaft remover?
Anyone have any suggestions, or should I just find a different vehicle?
Thanks!
PS Also looking for links to those companies that make equipment to allow 4-down towing of cars not designed for it.

If the Legacy has a manual transmission it's supposed to be towable. With an automatic, it's not. There's info about this on the Subaru web site.

Thanks for the link...and they show that they have NOTHING to make it a FROG.
The Subaru is an automatic and I suppose the transfer case can't be lubed externally so that's why you can't tow but I don't know. If Remco doesn't have a resolution, I suppose I'll have to start looking for another vehicle.
Thanks for the ideas.

Wow...You must be planning on leaving Alaska?????? I assume you've gotten the motorhome running.
Jim spent the winter in Alaska near Fairbanks for those of you who don't know him. If you view his profile you will see a link to his blog. Some OUTSTANDING pictures of Alaska and what they do in the winter for fun.

A better idea would be to pick up a used Saturn ION, an even better toad! Bagman.

I have pretty much decided to spend another winter here. Not absolutely certain but pretty close. Once it gets to Oct. 15th I'm pretty much stuck here so I still have time to change my mind. I enjoyed the Ice Carving Event so much last Feb.-March that I want to see it again in 2009. I volunteered around 60 hours per week during the event with the assignment of keeping the Webcams working and sending pictures of the sculptures to the web as they progressed. We had around 33 cameras operating during the event and I'll probably be doing the same work next year.
I'll keep a short list of suggested vehicles like the Escort. I bought the Subaru last fall with the idea I'd use it as a frog this summer but now I'll be selling it and finding something more appropriate. It is a great car, really reliable, and the AWD got me out of driveways choked with snow with ease last winter.
Thanks for everyone's input so far...

Well, here in Fairbanks, there are a lot of skeeters, but they are dumb and slow moving. Plus they don't carry any bad diseases. Also, their bites don't itch as much or as long.
I figured it would be horrible too but it's much much less then I expected. I spritz on some Deet twice a day and I'm good. And there are lots of days when they don't seem to come by, to cold, to breezy, etc..
However...if I go 200 yards down to the pond or 600 yards over to the river in the evening there are so many that it's no fun. Fresh Deet keeps them from biting, but they are still annoying.
So if the skeeters are the only thing keeping you from coming up here, forget them.
