This was about 20 years ago, but one time we came out of the church service on sunday morning, got in the car to go home, started it up and it sound like a drag boat. Someone had stolen the entire exhaust system, from the manifold back, of our '84 Honda CRX. This was in broad daylight in the church parking lot, in a good neighborhood, no less! That car was so low to the ground, the only way the theif could have got the exhaust off there was to jack up that whole side of the car. We couldn't believe it.
Yep, It happened to my son on his 4runner in broad open daylight in the grocery store parking lot where he works. Scared the bejesus out of him when he started it up. Got a new one with a discount from a sympathetic NAPA dealer and he is all back up and running and parks in different spots which have more foot traffic.
Yes it is all scrap dealers faults. In Arizona if you have scrap of value they will give $24.99 in cash. Why that price, NO PAPER TRAIL they would have to fill out paperwork over $25.00 That is a loophole that needs slammed shut RIGHT NOW! but no, the legislature is off for the summer and didn't pass a law like that.
perhaps some own scrap yards?
Anyway, damn bad luck. Sorry, Been there.

I am not a big fan of over-regulation but I think they need to clamp down on the scrap dealers. They seem incapable of policing themselves or even questioning when some guy comes in with a bunch of catalytic converters, or rain gutters, or copper tubing.
Sorry to hear that. We have the same problem in Maryland at the park and ride lots. When you leave your car or truck when you get back you will be missing your converter. Most of the time they take it from trucks or SUVs easier to get under and as said more money for the larger converters. The best thing about this is that the lots are patrolled by Maryland's finest because their state property and it still happens. Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!! JIM

They do, but from the way I read the OP, she had gone to Wally World (for food), then to the storage lot to get the RV. The RV wasn't at WallyWorld when it got jacked!! Of course, who's going to stop someone from working under their RV....or at least assume that they are working on it. And most RVs park away from the store.....away from the cameras too!! As for the Storage lot, one would think that the storage lot would have security to some degree....but it's tough to figure out who would do it....and who would have access!
Bummer!!!

4runners are especially prone to this. One can crawl under them and the cat is super easy to unbolt. I have heard of an anti-theft kit available for them.
If the authorities busted a few more scrap metal dealers, it would be lexx of a problem. Lately up here they have been swiping he neutral wire off power lines. Cut it, tie it to a truck and pull. Just make sure you don't touc the other wires.

A Honda dealer here had 20 cars that they stole the convertors.
The scap dealers are just as guilty for buying convertors.
I wondered how much we were talking about, now $200 is quick easy money, it sound like the answer is to crack down on any one buying used converters. And have the auto makers stamp the Vin# on them, like they do the transmission and other major parts.
