I'd think this would be a real good reason to decide to stop smoking.
"A welder in the US has survived after a van carrying propane gas tanks exploded.
The blast in Hialeah, Florida which was reportedly caused by the man lighting a cigarette, was captured on nearby surveillance cameras.
The driver suffered burns but is in a stable condition in hospital."
The us news said they were acsetaline(sp?) tanks.
After looking at the picture of his van it's a miracle that this guy walked away.
Smoking has nothing to do with being foolish enough to carry tanks of flammable gas in an enclosed vehicle. Ask the guy in Great Falls, MT who went to fill his BBQ propane tank in his Wagoneer, and lit his cigar on the way home. He will be glad to tell you how dumb it is!

We all carry a tank to get it filled unless you own a pickup truck. The idiocy is lighting a cigarette or cigar.

He must not of bled his lines before he put up the torch. Acetalyne in a closed cylinder is safe, unless the valve is broken off. The main reason for not carrying compressed gas cylinders, of any kind of gas, inside the passenger compartment is they tend to get loose and can become a decapitating missile traveling through the vehicle, in the case of a sudden stop or manuever or a collision.
Must have been leaking for a long time or pretty badly. The acetylene left in hoses if not bled is not very much and I doubt it would cause a van to explode. Flash fire maybe, but explode means there was a ton of acetylene gas bled into that sucker.

I disagree.. Smoking is pure stupid
So is carrying tanks of flammable gas in an enclosed vehicle
So is carrying Cans of Flammable liquid (Gasoline) in an enclosed vehicle
Stupid is as stupid does.. So.. They really do go together
