I've got a fairly new camper and have kept it in a garrage when not camping. During the Spring camping trip I had a yellow flame that wouldn't stay lit for my refrigerator. The culprit ended up being spider nests plugging the propane jet. Please help with THREE QUESTIONS:
1. Will standard screen door mesh keep them out in the future?
2. Will screen decrease the efficiency of the refrigerator because of impaired venting to the outside?
3. Can an air compressor blow the webs/nests out without disassembling the burner?
Thanks for the input.

Married to a non-camping enthusiast, but he goes on short trips anyway
Two kids 8 & 10 that enjoy burning things
I love the outdoors and doing mods on my SantaFe.

rhillx4: do you just hold the hose in the vicinity of the jet and blow everywhere? or disassemble the burner assembly?

I'm also interested in a solution to this problem too. I want to avoid the spiders, but, wasps seem to be building nests in my hot water and fridge vents.

I use the screens over my water heater and furnace and have never had a problem in 15 years.

I have screens on both too, but always wondered why they didn't come up with a screen aftermarket for the fridge? The plastic vents are big enough for them to get in and there 'is' a propane vent issure there too.
You'd think they would put them on the RV's from the factory.
edit: low and behold I guess they do make one for the fridge, albeit it looks to be just like a plain roll of screening.

God only knows why they don't make them screened? But we've screened a lot of fridge vents over the years. If the installation is marginal then screening may cause a problem. But a fair to excellent installation won't have a problem with screening fridge vents. Hardware cloth and a ring of silicone works well.
One note if you decide to go whole hog and screen everything in sight watch the exhaust vents for the furnace and water heater. They do get hot enough to melt plastic screening.
We usually advice buying the commercial covers for these that are removable, so you can take them off when actually using the appliances.

Good advice. I have gotten burnt on those screens a couple of times when going around the MH on that side when parked at events.Didn't think of taking them off when moving around and traveling with them.
I still shudder when I see the hot water heater and furnaces on RV's where they are on the same side as the awning where people congregate. And the ones where the gen exhausts on that side is just plain stupid for an RV.
