NorthernTool.com has a small 1000 that it says is quieter and only 2/3 the price of a Honda.
It's amazing how quiet all these clone gens are....right up until you fire them up. I have heard a Honda 1k run and I could barely hear it running (much quieter then the Honda 2K) so if the Northern Tool one is even quieter then it would have to be near totally silent. Not likely I am thinking.

This quote is the key to successfully living with one of the noisier generators and the only instance in which I feel they make sense in our application.

But if you plan on routinely camping in a much quieter environment, do you really want to be reminded of the money you saved(?) EVERY time you fire up the gen?

There is no such animal on the market.

but people with built generators in their rv are very loud, like the A's and C's.
This is where the Hondas got their rep as "cheap and quiet" since compared to the noisy built-in's Onan/Generac ($2800) the Honda is both appreciably quieter as well as way cheaper (<$900)

Check your local autostore, farm supply or hardware store. Everyone seems to have a cheep generator in the 1000 to 2000 range. They are all about the same at that level. For quality look on craigs list etc for a used Honda 1000.

Checker Auto is selling them now. 1500W surge and 1200W running. About $99 to $199. They look good with a RV outlet on one.

Fully enclosed to help reduce noise -- only 73 db(A) at 4 meters and 75% load

That is between very loud and extremely loud.

If it wasn't for the fact that we need to have a popcorn maker and the DW needs to blow dry her hair, would it not be great to have a 300 watt 20 pounder, nice and quiet, just to charge your batteries on occasion. Wouldn't that give you an easy 10 or 20 amps to charge your twelve volt batteries?
