Dear RVers,
We bought a 2007 Fleetwood Prowler 315 BH in January. WE love it, and have taken our coach out almost a dozen times. Only one small problem: the skylight in the shower is a nice feature, but prevents my husband and I from sleeping past the sun rises! My husband velcro'd black construction paper up from the inside, but it is tempermental, and breaks down. He is threatening to paint it black from the exterior (!) Any tips out there? Thank you

I put some tin foil in there. I use it while in storge to protect against uv rays but that skylight is always covered. Scotch tape and tin foil and it last for months.

I would think black cloth with velcro would survive better than paper. But try a large piece of couragated cardboard (paint flat black if needed) first as a pattern.

I got some 1" aluminum J channel which is used for installing aluminum siding and can be found at any home remodeling store (Lowes, Home Depot, Menards, etc). I cut lengths the same size of 2 opposite sides of the the sky light. I removed the screws on the skylight on the 2 opposite sides, slid the J channel under each side, then replaced the screws so they hold the J channel in place. This made a lip on opposite sides of the skylight. Next I cut a piece of paneling the size of the skylight that I slide into the J channel. It has to be the same width as the skylight so it can slide in the channel but I cut mine about 2" longer than necessary to block more light on the ends. When we want the light coming in the paneling is removed. When we need to cut the light I slide in the paneling and it darkens the bedroom.
The added benefit is it also cuts quite a bit of heat.
Total cost was nothing as I already had the J channel and paneling. If you had to buy everything cost would be less than $10. I painted the paneling white to match our ceiling. White also doesn't hold the heat like a dark piece of paneling.
I also did the same thing to the roof vent in the bedroom.

LOL, I am an early riser. I actually angle the blinds in the TT at night so that they provide privacy, but in the morning let the sunshine in. This way the family gets up before most of the day is gone... I don't think my wife has caught on yet!

Our 5er came with some cloth covered foam inserts that block 100% of the light. The foam is dense maybe marine foam but pliable.
If some one is handy sewing I would think they are easy to make.

The skylight consists of two pieces; an inside bubble and the outside bubble, which is screwed and fastened to the roof. The inside comes out via screws around the edge. I took the inside bubble out then cut a piece of that aluminized bubble type insulation from Lowes to fit and taped it into place with aluminum duct tape. Then reinstalled the bubble. Now it is totally dark and much cooler back there as the silver stuff is a great insulater. The bubble still looks white and when its time to sell, you can remove it and no damage done. I tried the foam and velcro-ing insulation up there etc and it would either fall or we would forget to put it back up at night etc. Also no piece of foam or fabric to have laying around during the day.

I cut a piece of lightweight plastic-like material and put velcro on it and the edges of the skylight. It can be removed easily and works well.
