I recently found myself having to avoid low bridges and spent 2 hours trying to find a way out of Brooklyn with a 39 ft 5th wheel behind me.
Has anyone found a GPS that routes you around low bridges and has a comptor program that allows you to pick and choose your roads?

This is a widely discussed subject here, if you do a search you'll see plenty of ideas for sure. The biggies are" Microsoft Streets and Trips, DeLorme, and CoPilot Live.

I use M/S S&T, which doesn't contain height restrictions. CoPilot does however.

We use a combination of CO Pilot and The Rand McNally Deluxe Motor Carriers' Road Atlas. Atlas can be had at Truck Stops, Flying J was $30. The atlas has a section on underpasses that are less than 13'6" listed by State, Route Number/ location. Co Pilot does have a feater for tall vehicles. Good Luck.

If you trust any portable GPS for clearance on bridges and/or tunnels you will almost certainly wreck! Some computer software generated maps can provide info but not on a portable that I am aware of.

Even Garmin and truck routing has nothing to do with heights/clearance.

GPS is only a navigational aid, you still have to research and use common sense.

Reseach some and the MANY MANY posts on GPS.. No brand is better than the other either, been discussed 1 source of sats, 2 map sources = NIL

Get a GPS but please don't trust it blindly.. Always double check clearance on overpass before proceeding! Best of luck to you!

There are several good suggestions above and you should avail yourself of them all. I have POI's loaded on my TomTom Go 720 for low clearances. It has all the ones I know about listed. While I'm sure it's not 100% it really helps. My unit doesn't route around them but, it's easy to look at the route and see that there is one on it and reroute around it.

A friend of mine just made a trip from out here in west Texas to Michigan. He used the above unit and said that it kept him out of a lot of trouble in a number of the large cities on his trip up. It warned him of highway problems well in advance and if the exit was from the left or right side of the freeway on his route.
