Does anyone besides me feel that the $9 reservation fee on reserve.gov are excessive. When I book a weekend at a State campground I am obviously looking to go cheap. This fee basically amounts to an additional day. In these days of our govt sitting on their hands as gas goes through the roof, this is just one more sign of the kind of disturbing gouging that I feel is goign on. I wrote to them and wold invite others to chime in... Come on George lets be reasonable!

Who is George? If you are talking about Bush he has nothing to do with state campgrounds. If George is the leader of the state than George who?
However you are right about all of the extra charges being imposed.

The next step will be charging sales tax on top of the fee, as I found here in KY on day use fees. That is pretty sad. Can you imagine calling a hotel and getting charged to make a reservation?! I guess they have to make up for tax cuts somehow, and you know state/local govts are being hammered by fuel prices too.

I doubt he knows about it and doesnt care one way or another you wouldnt find him in one anyways and its all about the money ,they should make them all first come first served and get rid of reservations in state and goverment parks.

Yes, "Goerge" is a refeence to our beloved president. As a National Forest campground... I am assuming our President has at least something to do with paying the more direct authorities :-) Plus I was trying to be cute and have only recently learned how to post a link :-)

When using the "Reserve-America.com" to make reservations in federal campgrounds there is no additional fee. If there is a charge to make one at state campgrounds then it is not a fee imposed by the federal government. It's surprising how many people don't know the difference between the local, state and federal government.

Most state and federal parks outsource their reservations system to third party suppliers. The fee is just their way of being compensated for the service they provide. Politics has nothing to do about it. Isn't it nice to be able to go on-line and make a reservation at your favorite park and know that you will have a site when you arrive. Somebody has to pay for this service... why not the people who use it?

Lets think about this a litte bit. I for one do not want to drive 300 miles to a state park only to find that the park is full. Therefore I want to be able to make a reservation. With out a reservation fee that is not refundalve, we could all block all of the spots and then not show up. The campground loses the business and the people who could not get a reservation because the park was "booked up" loses. A non-refundable reservation fee is a way to keep people honest. If you don't want to pay it go some place else or open your own campground and don't charge your customers a reservation fee.

We invite all of you to come visit Georgia - all reservations are handled directly by the state (either phone or email), thankfully not Reserve America. We usually go during the week and upon making reservation only have to charge one night's camping fee, with the remainder paid when you arrive. I think if you're going just for a weekend they charge the whole amount. There are no "reservation fees" charged. www.georgiastateparks.org or 1-800-864-7275.

it is a sign of the times, and the choice of charging fees, or reducing the number of sites or closing CG's all together, makes it a easy choice...

some would complain if they had a job tasting donuts... and this isn't directed at the OP'er... no matter what they do someone ends up crying foul...

going into a reservation pool like that reduces cost for some Rec. Dept's. and leaves more in the budget for keeping the place clean, because there are campers that don't...

no one likes to pay fees, but sometimes they are a necessary evil or even a saving grace for the facility... you decide...
