We have the fake grass stuff that we bought off a roll at Lowes. Sand and stuff sticks to it something awful and many times, we have to pack it up while it's still wet (what a mess that can sometimes be!).

Just wondering if there is something better out there. Our current outdoor carpet is pretty large....like 12 feet long. I would like something just as large.

Most private campgrounds wont like you using that fake grass stuff because it kills their grass. There are mats with open weave that will let the water and dirt fall through and still keep your feet out of the muk. Available at Camping World and other RV stores. lou

Really? I never knew that. Then again, we've never camped anywhere that had a grass site. All our sites have always been dirt/sand.

Here's an example

We have one very similar to this that we purchased on QVC actually. We are very happy with it. It is not as heavy as the astro turf stuff and the dirt and sand do fall through. If it gets muddy or dirty you just hose it off to clean it.

Those outdoor carpet ones are nasty. Big and hard to store and they always ended stinking.
The best thing I have found to use AND it's lightweight and can be hosed off 'clean' is.....go to home depot or whatever box store you have and go to the garden center and on big rolls they will have sun shade material for green houses etc.

It is sold by the foot and is 'very' inexpensive. i bought enough to go the whole length of my MH.
It's green, water can go thru it, incredibly durable and it keeps the dirt out of the RV. I picked up 4 clamp on rubbber grommets for the 4 corners and if needed I can stick stakes thru them to hold down in windy areas.

I fully expected mine to last maybe only one season, NOT! I have been using the same one for 4 years now! And the perstickedy CG's don't have a problem with this type of matt.

When ready to pack up I spray some dish soap on it, hose it down, it dries in minutes in the sun and FOLD it up into a one foot square!
My big woven mat has not come out of my bay for years!

The woven plastic ones from Camping World are what we have come to after two different types of outdoor carpet.

What you probably should get is a patio mat. We just ordered one on ebay and saved $20 over the local RV store..paid only $44 plus $10 shipping on a 9x12 mat..locally this would have been $75 plus tax. The patio mats are lightweight and the dirt filters through them. Hope this helps.

rockhillmanor, I never thought about using the shade fabric. That's a great idea!
