I seem to be having a little trouble chasing down an electrical issue. I have a jayco baja 10z. I have a brand new battery, but can't get anything to work. I believe it's the charge line fuse that blows every time I hook up the battery. I've looked at all the wires underneath the trailer and checked all wire caps under there, but everything is fine. Nothing 12V works when this fuse is blown, even when connected to 110. I only get the AC and power outlets when connected to 110. Would it be the power converter? Thanks,
Fred

By chance are your wires reversed on the battery-Fleetwood's the postive side is the black wire, white for negative.

Actually I reversed them and the same fuse blew that way as well.

Fred, there's a dead short somewhere. We'll start with if you leave the battery disconnected do you get anything 12 volt to run? Use a multimeter to check at the coverter terminals.
Is the battery charged at all? Sometimes a really dead battery will blow fuses if the converter tries to put to much amperage through to try nd charge it. Again check the battery voltage with a multimeter.

Mike,
Nothing 12v will run with the battery disconnected. I only get the air conditioner and the gfci outlets. No overhead lights, no waterpump, no outside light. I'll check my battery charge, but this also occured when the battery had never been used. What do you suggest next?

It sounds like the transformer/rectifier stage in the converter has bought the farm. You'll need a multimeter to check for voltage at the wires from the 15 amp breaker to the transformer section and at the output wires from that section. If there's 120 volts going in and nothing coming out, either there's an internal fuse that's blown (you'll have to open up the case to find it on the circuit board, but there may not be one depending on the brand of converter) or the transformer is just shot and needs replacing. With out converters we just replace the entire unit as it costs more for a new transformer stage and replacing it than a whole new converter costs.

Mike,
Thanks. I'll get the multimeter out and check where you suggested. It sounds like I might be in the market for a new converter. I don't remember seeing an inline fuse in there. Thank you very much for your help.

Rather than testing by blowing more fuses put a test lamp in series with the battery connection. Then start disconnecting stuff to isolate the short. When the short is corrected or isolated the test lamp will turn off or dim significantly.
Have you tried plugging in with no battery? You can verify polarity of the battery cables with the battery out and the trailer plugged in by using a voltmeter. Generally the colored wire will have an inline fuse/breaker within 18" oof the battery on the positive side. Usually the white wire will connect to the frame/ground.
