I have a 1989 Fleetwood Jamboree that is beginning to leak a bit of water out of the shower when the water system is pressurized. I suspect a washer in the tap is showing it's age and needs replacing, but how do you get at it? I have removed the tap knob, and there is a plastic cap over the stem, looks lit it may be held in place by a tabbed ring around it. Tried a couple of twists on both pices bit didn't want to move and I didn't want to break it. Is there a special technique to get them off, and once the tabs are off, does the whole faceplate remove for access? I am hoping someone has encounted this problem in the last 20 yaers and can guide me!
Thanks
Jeff

Hi
This happened to me. The fix is simple if you have the same set up. Repair/replace it soon because mu knob shot out of its fixture soon after it started to leak and blasted hot water all over the shower and me.
Turn odd water and open the bathroom taps to drain. Turn off water heater. Remove cap in center of faucet knob with small screwdriver. Remove screw beneath it. Remove knob. Some taps will have backward threads so try both ways on all connections. Beneath the knob is usually a cap type nut that screws odd by hand or with gently with a wrench or pliers. Yours could be held on with tabs that need to be bent out. Remove the cap then slide the assembly out. Repeat on other side.Assuming the unit is face mounted pull off the top of the plastic housing after unscrewing the shower hose. You may need to do this before sliding the assembles out. the entire box should come off with a 2 screws. If the assembly is concealed behind the shower wall then you need to go to the other side of the wall (usually inside a closet or behind a drawer that you can slide out and hope for a panel that covers an access hole. After removing the cap nuts you should be able to unfasten the unit. Now take the the whole works to a plumbing supply store or an RV parts place. Either get the complete replacement unit or get both cartridge assemblies depending on what you find. my unit cost $10.00 complete at a hardware store a block away from the campground. It took me an hour, a pliers and a screwdriver and I was back in bushiness. Hope it is as easy for you.

The way to repair it will depend upon the make of the faucet set. Phoenix is most common. Those the cover just snaps off and there is a screw under it to remove the handle. Once the handle is off, you will need a socket to remove the valve stem and cartridge which can then be replaced.
