Hi all, I have had this coach 3 years. NEVER A SMELL BEFORE. Parked on private site w/septic tank. Have always left gray tank open without a problem. But here I can't. Oders come up quickly if I do. Have to leave gray tank closed. Any ideas? Yes black tank is always closed. I usually fill gray when black is nearing time to empty to wash out hose. Thanks ahead of time for any help. Other than keeping grey closed which I am doing.

If it is the site sewer, probably not much you can do. if it is your grey tank - dump some chemicals in and fill and let them do their thing.

Otherwise, just dump once a day and leave it closed.

Firstly, your own gray water will smell after 48 hours and secondly, the sinks etc all have P traps to prevent odours inside the RV - the only smell should come through the roof vent which is open to the air.

So are you smelling sewer smells inside the RV? You want to disinfect the gray tank and your P traps.

If I have the time, after dumping, I'll fill the gray tank with fresh water and a small amount of bleach or pine sol and leave it for 30 minutes and then dump that. Cleans the gray tank and the sewer hose.

The gray tank can smell almost as bad as black tank. As another post said check vents on top and under the sink. We were getting bad odors from ours and I found a dirt dauber nest had stopped up the vent on top. And yes the vane type vents do help... John M.

That would be something I would check for sure. There may also be one under the bathroom sink. There is on mine.

I have vacuum breakers under both sinks. You shouldn't have any odor if all is working properly.
